Ya Malik, Ya Quddus
Each morning we awaken
and watch as You unfurl
all the glories of the day.
Moment by moment
we wait upon Your Word,
O Sovereign, Most Holy One,
who inspire our life, our love,
it is You
who shield us from harm
when we would listen
and turn to You,
within Your Grace.
This Sea of Love is surging,
and we, these little drops,
are swirled together
by the force of Your Loving.
For centuries we have danced,
from generation to generation,
arising now with red hair
and sometimes with brown,
with light skin or skin of darker hue,
but always within, You.
Such mysteries You clarify
when we would look—
how we are all knit together,
strand by strand
of inheritance of genes,
from east and west
and north and south,
that have sailed upon the seas.
When, from time to time,
one tribe has alienated another,
made strangers of themselves,
it has only taken one man
and one woman
from behind the scenes
to fall in love to bring us back
together and interweave
again the pattern of Your Love
to support our sustenance.
Bees fly far and mingle
with flowers of many scents
to bring forth new blooms
and honey that heals.
O Sovereign, Most Holy One,
help us to see
how we are made better
with diversity that purifies
and again renews
all the strands of DNA
that would express You.
“I was a Hidden Treasure,
and I so loved to be known
that I created the two worlds,
seen and Unseen,
in order that My Treasure
of Generosity and Loving-kindness
might be known.”
We give thanks for that overflowing
generosity in every shape
and form displayed, all around us,
and the impulses of Loving-kindness
that brighten these hearts.
All glory be to You,
O Most Loving, Ever-Living,
Most Holy Sovereign,
Most Pure of Intention and of Being,
Most Compassionate and Merciful,
Allah.

O Most Loving, Ever-Living, Ya Wadud, Ya Hayy,
Most Holy Sovereign, Most Pure of Intention and of Being, Ya Malik, Ya Quddus,
Most Compassionate and Merciful, Ya Rahman, Ya Rahim,
Allah (“God,” a Name used by both Arabic speaking Muslims and Christians,
pointing to the Source of All Being.)
“I was a Hidden Treasure, and I so loved to be known
that I created the two worlds, seen and Unseen,
in order that My Treasure of Generosity and Loving-kindness might be known.”
